Canadian international Jordyn Huitema is set for a new chapter in her professional career after the Chicago Stars acquired the talented forward from Seattle Reign FC. The deal, announced Thursday, includes $200,000 (US) in allocation money and a $300,000 transfer fee, with the 24-year-old striker signing a three-year contract with the National Women’s Soccer League club.
The move brings one of Canada’s most recognizable attacking players to Chicago as the Stars look to strengthen their front line ahead of the upcoming NWSL season.
Chicago Adds Proven Canadian Talent
Standing at five-foot-11, Huitema is known for her aerial ability, physical presence and scoring instincts. Chicago’s leadership believes those qualities will immediately boost the team’s offensive depth.
“We’re very excited to welcome Jordyn to Chicago,” Stars general manager Richard Feuz said in a statement. “Over the past few months, together with our coaching staff, we spent a lot of time identifying the right profile to strengthen our attacking line, and Jordyn quickly stood out.”
Feuz highlighted Huitema’s experience in both the NWSL and international competition as key factors behind the acquisition.
“She brings valuable experience, including winning the 2022 NWSL Shield and competing in playoff matches. We believe that will add another important layer to the group we’re building here.”
Huitema Embraces “Compelling Opportunity”
For Huitema, the decision to join Chicago came down to the club’s long-term vision and ambitions.
“I’m truly excited to be joining Chicago and becoming part of what this club is building,” Huitema said. “The ambition, vision and direction of the organization made this an incredibly compelling opportunity, and I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to the team’s future.”
The Chilliwack, B.C., native also reunites with fellow Canadian international Julia Grosso, a close friend and teammate on Canada’s women’s national team, who is already on the Stars’ roster.
Strong International and Club Career
Huitema has been a key contributor for Canada’s national team, earning 96 caps while recording 23 goals and seven assists. Her combination of size, technical skill and finishing ability has made her a consistent threat in the attacking third.
Before arriving in the NWSL, Huitema began her professional career with Paris Saint-Germain in France. Between 2019 and 2021, she made 45 appearances for the Ligue 1 Féminine powerhouse, gaining valuable experience in European competition.
She joined Seattle in 2022, where she quickly became a regular part of the Reign’s attack. Over four seasons with the club, Huitema made 70 regular-season appearances, including 58 starts, scoring 10 goals and adding four assists.
Her time in Seattle also placed her in the club’s record books. Huitema leaves the Reign ranked eighth in regular-season goals and 11th in appearances in franchise history. She also became the second-youngest player in club history to score two goals in a single match, achieving the milestone in 2024 at age 23.
Reign Thank Huitema for Her Contributions
Seattle general manager Lesle Gallimore praised Huitema’s professionalism and impact during her tenure with the club.
“Jordyn has been a tremendous professional and teammate during her time with the Reign,” Gallimore said. “We’re grateful for the commitment and energy she brought to the club and to our community. We wish her nothing but the best in the next chapter of her career.”
Stars Prepare for New Season
Huitema’s arrival comes just days before Chicago kicks off its NWSL campaign. The Stars open the 2026 season Sunday on the road against Angel City FC, where the Canadian striker could make her debut.
With a new contract, a fresh start in Chicago and strong international form, Huitema’s move is shaping up to be one of the most notable Canadian transfers in women’s soccer this year.
