Saskatchewan survived a tense finish against Winnipeg and walked away with a 32-26 overtime win at Mosaic Stadium. The result came in front of a record crowd of 34,352, the biggest audience ever for a CFL game at the venue.
The game had a dramatic ending in regulation, with Winnipeg forcing extra time on the final snap. Zach Collaros found Dorian Singer for a five-yard touchdown as the clock expired, erasing Saskatchewan’s lead and sending the rivalry clash into overtime.
Overtime Belonged to the Roughriders
Once the extra period began, Saskatchewan wasted no time taking control. Tommy Stevens powered in from one yard out for his third touchdown of the day, adding to a season total that now stands at 15 rushing scores.
The Roughriders failed on the two-point attempt, which left the door open just enough for Winnipeg to respond. Instead, Saskatchewan’s defense finished the job and kept the visitors from extending the night.
On third-and-six from the Saskatchewan 31, the Blue Bombers needed a conversion to stay alive. Jameer Thurman stopped the threat by bringing down the receiver behind the line, ending the game and igniting the home crowd.
Big Plays Powered the Saskatchewan Offense
Trevor Harris handled most of the passing workload for the Roughriders, finishing 23 of 33 for 362 yards and one touchdown. He said the offense needed time to settle in before finding its rhythm.
The passing game opened up as the afternoon wore on, and several players stepped into larger roles because of injuries. Harris praised the team’s ability to keep grinding even without key pieces available.
- Dhel Duncan-Busby delivered a career day with 10 catches for 140 yards.
- His production included several important receptions on late downs in the fourth quarter.
- Samuel Emilus and Kian Schaffer-Baker were unavailable, which expanded Duncan-Busby’s role.
- He has now compiled 35 catches for 504 yards this season.
Duncan-Busby said patience mattered because opportunities were going to come eventually. He also pointed to the depth of the receiving group and the injuries that have forced others to step forward.
Defense, Milestones, and What Comes Next
The defense matched the offense’s effort with a strong closing stretch. Aubrey Miller Jr., starting at linebacker for the first time in his career, said the unit fed off the points the offense put on the board before finishing the game itself.
Saskatchewan recorded sacks from Miller, Derick Roberson, and Seyi Oladipo. The group also shut down Brady Oliveira, who entered the game with 956 rushing yards but finished with only 28 on nine carries.
Harris also moved up the CFL’s all-time passing list during the second quarter. A 72-yard throw to Daniel Wiebe pushed him past Doug Flutie into 10th place, and Harris said the moment felt especially fitting because of the people who helped him get there.
He now owns 41,590 career passing yards, which places him behind Matt Dunigan’s 43,857 in ninth. Anthony Calvillo still holds the league record with 79,816.
KeeSean Johnson added another personal milestone by topping 1,000 receiving yards for a second straight season. He finished with four catches for 32 yards, bringing his season totals to 81 receptions and 1,022 yards.
- Collaros completed 27 of 40 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns.
- His scoring throws went to Kevens Clercius and Dorian Singer.
- Quali Conley caught Saskatchewan’s other touchdown, and Roberson added a safety.
- Sergio Castillo was perfect on four field-goal attempts for Winnipeg.
- Alex Hale made one of three field goals for Saskatchewan.
The rivalry shifts north again on Saturday, September 12, when the teams meet in Winnipeg for the next chapter of the season series.
